Happy Autumn! Today is the first day of the season!
A couple of reminders grade 9s: for Monday you need to have the first side of the Novel Study Tracking Sheet completed and ready to be handed in for feedback; you also need to have a printed news article of an event that is connected to a significant issue. Your novel needs to be read by Monday, October 2. Are you reading at home? LA
Today in class we continued the discussion of setting. The characterization and setting assignment is due tomorrow. You should be reading your novel at home. Now you can begin gathering information on the Novel Study Tracking Sheet. Side 1 should be completed by Monday, September 25. Social Today you had a period to work on the summary for your political cartoon. This is due tomorrow as well. Thank you to most of you who came to class today with your political cartoon printed and the analysis completed. If you are not finished, print off the cartoon and complete the analysis for tomorrow.
You will have some time in class tomorrow to ensure that you have constructive feedback from three classmates. You will then have time to type up a summary, which is due on Wednesday. If you finish the summary then you can begin looking for a current news article/issue for your political cartoon drawing. Most of our LA time today was spent writing a response to the reading prompt. Tomorrow we will finish up the handout on character and setting and you will start working on your first novel study tracking sheet. Novels need to be finished by October 1. Are you reading at home each night if you have no LA or social homework??? Thursday, September 15
We are moving along quickly in Language Arts and Social Studies. In LA so far, you have completed and handed in today 20 vocabulary cards related to the short story "The Sniper." Today we started working with characterization and setting. Make sure that you have completed the characterization portion of the handout for Monday. In Social so far, you have completed and handed in on Tuesday a current events assignment. We have begun analyzing political cartoons. Please come to class on Monday with a print out of your political cartoon. Tomorrow, we will move forward with a new political cartoon assignment. The first step, which will be started tomorrow, is to find a current event/issue. From this, you will determine the overall message and then create a political cartoon. Remember when you say "I have no homework," this is not the case. You should be reading everyday at home: either your novel or news articles. The Welcome Letter is now posted within LA resources, so you can access it electronically.
For Monday, remember to bring index cards, a personal dictionary, and a novel. We will start each day with 20 minutes of reading. You'll start working with Novel Tracking Sheets on Tuesday. Thank you grade 9s for an exciting and fun start to our school year together. Have a great weekend! Wednesday, September 6 Wednesday, September 6
This was a great first day of classes, grade 9s! For tomorrow you need to read some news articles with the purpose of learning a current event that is political, economic, and social. Please bring a highlighter to class tomorrow. HammStars, thanks for a great first day back! There will be a name quiz tomorrow. Do you think you remember everyone's name? :)
Be prepared for regular school tomorrow. Bring your stuff! Fellow Hammsters, I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday. Grade 7s, in case you're wondering, that's our TA (Teacher Advisory) group name. :)
What will we be doing? Lockers, locks, forms, Home Logic, all sorts of things to get organized for the year. Bring your smile and enthusiasm and see you soon. |
